Hypospadias

We had an appointment yesterday up at Primary Childrens to see the Urology specialist. Cooper has a severe Hypospadias. What happend is his genatalia didn't develop correctly. He isn't peeing out the tip of the penis like a normal baby. His urethal opening is at the base of the penis and the top of the scrotom. I know it sounds weird but the doc says that 1 out of 125 boys is born with some form of Hypospadias. Our follow up appt went as expected. He is developing the same and will need two surgeries to fix it. If we choose not to fix it, it is very likely that he wouldn't be able to have sex as an adult and it would be more likely for him to get bladder and kidney infections. His first surgery is scheduled for April 10th. Its a same day surgery so we wont need to be spending any nights in the hospital. During the first surgery the doctor will straighten out the penis. As it is now curving downward. If all heals well then his next surgery will be 5 to 6 months later. That one will be making a tube that will go down the center of the penis and be a "urethra" that comes out the tip of the penis. Now out the two surgeries the second one is the most painful sounding. Poor boy wont be very happy with us but he will definately thank us in the long run!

Here is a cute video of Cooper checking out his toes.
